The Best LimeVPN Alternatives

1. NordVPN - Best Overall LimeVPN Alternative

NordVPN is the best all-round replacement for LimeVPN, and it earns a 9.0 in our NordVPN review. The two-year Basic plan costs about $3.39 to $3.49 a month, since NordVPN runs frequent promotions, or $14.99 on a monthly term. A dedicated IP is a paid add-on to any plan, at roughly $3.69 to $4.19 a month on two years.

You get 10 devices, a 30-day money-back guarantee and about 9,300 servers, though the country total varies with how NordVPN counts virtual locations. Deloitte completed NordVPN's sixth no-logs assurance after fieldwork in late 2025.

On nearby servers we lost only about 4% of our download speed and 7% of upload, and 4K streams played with no buffering. Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer and Prime Video all unblocked reliably. The map view needed zooming before we could pick a server, so we switched to the quicker list view.

2. Proton VPN - Best Free and Privacy-First Alternative

Proton VPN is the pick if privacy comes first, or if you want to try a VPN without paying. It ties NordVPN at 9.0 in our Proton VPN review and is based in Switzerland. VPN Plus costs $2.99 a month on two years or $9.99 monthly, covers 10 devices and has a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Servers span 140+ countries, and Securitum audits the no-logs policy every year, which is the kind of outside check LimeVPN's logging promise has never had. The catch for LimeVPN Plus users is that Proton sells no dedicated IP on consumer plans; you need Proton VPN for Business for a fixed address.

In our testing, nearby servers kept about 90% or more of our baseline download speed, while distant servers averaged around three-quarters. DNS, IPv6 and WebRTC leak tests stayed clean across dozens of countries. Upload speeds trailed NordVPN's, which matters if you push large files to the cloud.

3. ExpressVPN - Best for Ease of Use and Stable Speeds

ExpressVPN is the easiest alternative to live with day to day, with an 8.8 in our ExpressVPN review. Basic costs $2.99 a month on two years or $12.99 monthly, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Basic covers 10 devices, Advanced 12 and Pro 14.

A dedicated IP comes included on Express Pro and is a paid add-on for Basic and Advanced, in 29 locations, with the add-on price shown only at checkout. KPMG checked ExpressVPN's privacy policy in 2025.

Its apps were the most polished of the group in our hands. When a server timed out during one of our sessions, Network Lock cut traffic straight away, and it fired again when we changed networks. Speed is the trade-off: our downloads fell by roughly 37-39% on nearby servers, more than with NordVPN or Proton VPN. Netflix libraries in several countries, ESPN+ and Hulu all streamed without issues.

4. Surfshark - Best Budget Pick for Unlimited Devices

Surfshark is the budget pick for big households, because it puts no cap on devices where LimeVPN stops at 6. It scored 8.6 in our Surfshark review. Starter costs $2.49 a month on two years, billed $67.23 for 27 months. Month-to-month runs roughly $15 to $16 depending on region and tax, so the value sits in the long plan.

A dedicated IP is an add-on from $3.75 a month in 15 locations, but you can't change its location after purchase. Surfshark runs 4,500+ servers in 100 countries, Deloitte verified its no-logs policy in 2023 and 2025, and there's a 30-day money-back guarantee.

On macOS our downloads slowed by only about 10%, even on a transatlantic server. The Windows app was less consistent, with bigger slowdowns and the odd ping spike. The kill switch held when we dropped the connection, and we saw no IPv4, IPv6, DNS or WebRTC leaks.

5. Mullvad VPN - Best for Anonymous Sign-Up

Mullvad is the best choice if you'd rather not hand over an email address at all. It scored 8.5 in our Mullvad review. Signing up took us seconds, because Mullvad issued a random 16-digit account number and asked for no email or name.

The price is a flat EUR 5 a month (about $5.63), with 5 devices and a 14-day money-back guarantee, except on cash payments. Its 566 servers cover 50 countries from a Swedish base, all running WireGuard. Mullvad's 2024 Cure53 infrastructure audit was its fourth, although these audits check infrastructure rather than issue a formal no-logs opinion.

There are no dedicated IPs and no port forwarding, by design. Streaming was the weak spot for us: Netflix US and BBC iPlayer blocked Mullvad's servers with proxy errors, and access that worked in one session failed minutes later. Websites also threw CAPTCHA challenges often while we were connected.

6. Private Internet Access - Best for Customization and Port Forwarding

Private Internet Access is the tinkerer's pick, with an 8.4 in our Private Internet Access review. It costs $11.95 for one month or about $2.03 a month on the three-years-plus-three-months deal, though PIA rotates that deal's length and bonus months by date and region.

A dedicated IP is an add-on from $2.50 a month on long plans. PIA allows unlimited devices, offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, and Deloitte completed its third no-logs assurance in December 2025. The company is US-based and owned by Kape Technologies.

The desktop app's long settings list felt overwhelming at first, then became easy once we'd tuned it. Speed loss was small, about 4% on local servers and 18% internationally. Port forwarding works everywhere except US servers and cost us very little speed while torrenting, but the forwarded port changed every time we reconnected. Streaming is weak, since US and UK Netflix no longer unblock.

7. CyberGhost - Best for Streaming Servers

CyberGhost is the streaming specialist, scoring 8.4 in our CyberGhost review. It costs $2.19 a month on the 26-month plan (billed $56.94) or $12.99 monthly. The longer plans carry a 45-day money-back guarantee, the longest here, while the monthly plan gets 14 days.

A dedicated IP costs $5 a month at the monthly rate and less on longer terms. CyberGhost allows 7 devices, runs servers in 100+ countries, and Deloitte has audited its no-logs policy three times, most recently in February 2026.

The app connected us to a nearby server in under ten seconds on first launch. Its streaming servers, labelled by platform, loaded Netflix US, BBC iPlayer, Disney+ and Prime Video on the first try without any server-hopping. Long-distance connections were the weak spot, with downloads dropping by more than 55% on Australia and South Africa servers. The 7-device cap also filled up fast in a household with phones, laptops, a TV stick and tablets.

8. TorGuard - Best for Dedicated IPs

TorGuard is the closest match to LimeVPN Plus, because static IPs are its main strength. It scores 7.4 in our TorGuard review. Standard costs $10.99 monthly or about $4.28 a month on three years. A dedicated IP costs $7.99 a month on Standard, while Pro ($14.29 monthly) and Premium include one free.

It also sells streaming and residential dedicated IPs. Devices run 8 on Standard, 12 on Pro and 30 on Premium, across 3,000+ servers in around 50 countries. TorGuard is based in Florida, has published no independent no-logs audit, and offers a 7-day money-back guarantee.

Our first login only worked after an activation lag of about five minutes. The apps were buggy in daily use, with slow connects, "not responding" errors and failed connections, and the settings menu scatters features across tabs. A same-city server delivered only about two-thirds of our unprotected speed.

Best Free LimeVPN Alternatives

LimeVPN's own pages contradict each other on whether a free trial exists, so its 7-day refund is the only certain safety net. A free plan elsewhere is an easier way to test a VPN before you pay.

Proton VPN's free plan leads, and it provides a secure tunnel on one device with servers in 10 countries, no data limit and no ads. It assigns a server for you rather than letting you pick a country, so it suits basic privacy on public Wi-Fi better than changing your location.

Windscribe, which scores 8.5 in our Windscribe review, is the other free option worth a look. Its free plan gives you 10GB a month with a confirmed email and unlimited devices across about 10 countries, but no streaming-optimised servers or torrenting.

Neither free plan includes a dedicated IP. For more options, see our roundup of free VPN alternatives.

LimeVPN Alternatives for Business and Remote Teams

Some LimeVPN customers use the Plus plan's static IP for work, to reach company servers that only accept known addresses. A consumer VPN can do that for one person. Businesses with several staff usually need user management as well.

NordLayer is the business service from the company behind NordVPN. Lite costs $8 per user a month on annual billing, with a 5-user minimum. A dedicated server with a fixed IP costs an extra $40 a month on Core and Premium, which gives remote staff one known address to add to an allowlist. It has a 14-day money-back guarantee.

Tailscale works differently. It's a WireGuard-based mesh network that connects your own devices, servers and private resources across locations, instead of routing your traffic through a commercial server pool. The Personal plan is free for up to 6 users, and Standard costs $8 per user a month. We cover how Tailscale compares with OpenVPN in a separate guide.

Proton VPN for Business is a third route, with dedicated servers at roughly $39.99 a month each on its VPN Professional tier.

Why Look for a LimeVPN Alternative?

LimeVPN scored 5.2 in our LimeVPN review, the lowest of any VPN on this page. It still gets several things right, so it's worth being clear about both sides.

What LimeVPN Does Well

The price is fair. LimeVPN's current pricing shows Core at $5.99 a month or $49 a year, and Plus at $9.99 a month or $84 a year. Plus adds a dedicated static IP that is never shared, which few VPNs include in the plan price.

Each account covers 6 devices, and the current apps are WireGuard-first with OpenVPN and AES-256 encryption. Our leak checks found no IP, DNS or WebRTC leaks, and live chat answered us in about 15 minutes.

Where LimeVPN Falls Short

The network is small. LimeVPN's own pages give different totals, from 13 countries on its locations page to "30+" on its homepage, so think of it as roughly a dozen to 30 locations.

Performance was uneven too. On the pre-relaunch apps our speeds dropped by about 35% on average, from roughly 21 Mbps to about 14 Mbps, and a Chicago server fell below 6 Mbps. P2P ran through a single Netherlands server, and US Netflix was the only major service that opened for us.

Privacy is the bigger question. In July 2021 a hacker breached LimeVPN's backup server, and a report on the LimeVPN data breach found about 69,000 user records for sale, including usernames, plain-text passwords and IP addresses. LimeVPN has published no independent audit since, and its privacy policy mentions "regular security audits" without naming an auditor.

The no-logs promise changed wording with the 2026 relaunch and has never been independently checked, so what LimeVPN actually retains is unproven. Native app coverage also changed with the relaunch, so check that your platform has an app. Trustpilot rates LimeVPN 2.7 out of 5 across 58 reviews.

How to Choose a LimeVPN Alternative

Dedicated IP Availability

A dedicated IP gives you an address nobody else uses, which helps when a bank, work server or remote desktop only accepts known IPs. If that's why you bought LimeVPN Plus, add the base plan and the add-on together before you compare. Surfshark's two-year Starter plan plus its IP add-on comes to about $6.24 a month, against roughly $7.00 a month for LimeVPN Plus on annual billing. TorGuard goes further than most, with regular, streaming and residential dedicated IPs to choose from at checkout.

No-Logs, Kill Switch and Leak Protection

Look for a no-logs policy that an outside firm has checked, not just a promise in the privacy policy. Seven of our eight picks have had their no-logs claims or infrastructure audited by firms such as Deloitte, KPMG, Securitum or Cure53. A kill switch should block internet traffic the moment the tunnel drops, so run a leak check yourself after setup.

Server Coverage and Speed

More locations matter if you travel or need a specific country. Every pick here covers around 50 countries or more. Speed depends on distance more than brand: nearby servers cost NordVPN, Proton VPN and PIA very little in our runs, while CyberGhost lost more than half its speed on distant servers.

Price, Devices and Money-Back Guarantee

The cheapest rates sit on two- and three-year plans, so check what the plan renews at. CyberGhost's first renewal roughly doubles the effective monthly rate. Device limits range from 5 on Mullvad to unlimited on Surfshark and PIA. Refund windows run from 45 days on CyberGhost's longer plans to 7 days on TorGuard, which matches LimeVPN.

Tip

Set up your new VPN inside its money-back window before you cancel LimeVPN. That way you can confirm speeds, streaming and any dedicated-IP allowlists while both services still run.

Which LimeVPN Alternative Is Right for You?

  • You want the safest all-round swap: start with NordVPN.
  • You don't want to pay yet: start on Proton VPN's free plan and upgrade if it suits you.
  • You're not tech-savvy: ExpressVPN's apps need the least setup.
  • You have a big household: Surfshark and PIA both allow unlimited devices.
  • You want no account details on file: Mullvad needs only a random account number.
  • You torrent heavily: PIA's port forwarding beats LimeVPN's single P2P server.
  • You mainly stream: CyberGhost's labelled servers save you from server-hopping.
  • You need a dedicated IP above everything: TorGuard has the widest choice of IP types.

How to Switch from LimeVPN

  1. List what you use LimeVPN for, especially any service that allowlists your Plus static IP.
  2. Buy your replacement and install it on every device you plan to keep using.
  3. Test speeds, streaming and leak protection during the new VPN's money-back window.
  4. Order a dedicated IP add-on if you need one, then replace your old LimeVPN address in each allowlist, firewall rule or remote-desktop setting.
  5. Cancel LimeVPN. If you're within 7 days of your first Core purchase and have used less than 10 GB, request a refund by email, live chat or the contact form.
  6. Uninstall the LimeVPN apps and remove any LimeVPN configuration from your router.

How We Picked These Alternatives

Beyond the headline criteria, we weighed device limits, refund windows and whether each provider's no-logs policy has been independently checked. Our hands-on findings cover speed on nearby and distant servers, leak checks, kill-switch behaviour and whether major streaming services loaded. We checked prices against each provider's current pricing and note where a provider's own pages disagree.

FAQ

What is the closest like-for-like replacement for LimeVPN Plus?
Look at plans that bundle a dedicated IP rather than selling it separately. TorGuard Pro and Premium each include one free dedicated IP, and ExpressVPN includes one on its Pro plan at $7.49 a month on two years. Both cost more than LimeVPN Plus at $84 a year, but they come with far larger networks.
Can I get a refund on LimeVPN's Plus plan?
No. LimeVPN's refund policy makes the Plus plan explicitly non-refundable, and renewals are excluded too. Only a first Core purchase qualifies. Approved refunds take 3-5 business days to process, and crypto payments come back as account credit.
How does LimeVPN pricing compare with the alternatives?
LimeVPN looks cheap on a monthly plan, at $5.99 against $14.99 for NordVPN or $12.99 for ExpressVPN. On annual billing, Core works out to about $4.08 a month. Mullvad's flat EUR 5 (about $5.63) still undercuts LimeVPN month to month, and Proton VPN Plus costs $3.99 a month on a one-year plan, as does PIA, though PIA's deal lengths shift by region. Most other picks only get cheaper on two- or three-year terms.
Can I still torrent with LimeVPN?
LimeVPN's relaunched pages don't say whether torrenting is allowed or on which servers. On the older service, P2P ran through one Netherlands server, and a 700MB download took close to 24 hours for us. PIA and TorGuard both support torrenting, though only on non-US servers.
Where is LimeVPN based?
LimeVPN's current privacy policy, updated April 14, 2026, says the company is incorporated in Singapore and follows Singapore's PDPA 2012. Older records place it in Hong Kong. An outside audit tells you more about what a VPN keeps than its company address does.
Which alternative suits a larger company?
NordLayer scales furthest, with Core at $11 and Premium at $14 per user a month on annual billing, and an Enterprise tier from 200 users. Proton VPN for Business's Professional tier adds SSO and SCIM for user provisioning.

The Bottom Line
