Sarah spent twelve years in middle-school classrooms, first as a teacher and later as her school’s technology coordinator, the person parents called when a device went home and something went wrong. Now based in Portland, Oregon, with two school-age kids of her own, she leads our parental-control coverage.
Every app she reviews gets installed on her own family’s devices, and her kids know it is there. That is the point: she believes oversight tools should build trust, not break it, so her verdicts weigh a child’s privacy as heavily as a parent’s controls. An app that only surveils well does not score well.
Outside her reviews, Sarah runs digital-safety workshops for parent groups and writes practical guidance on screen time, content filtering, and how to talk to kids about what monitoring is actually for.
