Top Five Gaming Computers Under $800

Gaming can be expensive. Whether it’s $60 for a brand new game, a $15 a month subscription to WoW, or all of the expensive hardware that you’re supposed to need (Alienware, Graphics card, decent gaming mouse), it might seem like you have to spend a lot of money to game properly. While the truth is that you can get a lot of decent gaming computers for thousands of dollars, you can usually find a good one for considerably less. If you need something more powerful than the pre-made options currently available, you can also try looking into building your own, which is a more affordable option. The following include five of the best gaming computers available for $800 or less.

Acer Predator

The Acer Predator is a decent gaming desktop that looks and feels like a real gaming rig. In fact, it even comes with a light up case that will either make you look cool or like the griefer, Jenkins, from Make Love, Not Warcraft – Southpark, depending on how you set it up. The only real downside is that it is Acer, which means everything is plastic, and you probably won’t get more than five years out of it.

Cybertron Helion

Cybertron has always been one of our favorite gaming computer manufacturers, and their Hellion holds up well to their reputation. For an average of $799, you get one of the most powerful ‘semi-budget’ gaming desktops on the market, a semi-fancy case with multiple LED options, and an easy to upgrade system that allows you to bump up graphics, memory, and storage with no real tech expertise at all. However, the occasional model is shipped with factory defects, so you might want to plug it in, test it out and make sure everything is up to standards right away, as there are reports of some users getting theirs without Windows even fully installed.

Lenovo IdeaCentre K450e

hqdefault-3

While we wouldn’t usually recommend Lenovo for anything (no seriously, their laptops can be quite bad for the money), the IdeaCentre is actually a decent desktop for the money. While you can’t expect it to be perfect, it offers impressive performance, (with plastic parts that will break if you so much as look at them the wrong way) and with a bit of shopping around, can usually be found for under $700. With 12GB of memory, a smoother non-flashy exterior and an easy to upgrade interior, it’s well worth it for a teen or a beginner who just wants something with enough power to game on.

Tip! This is Lenovo. We can’t stress enough that they mess up a lot. Make sure you test the model ASAP and return it if it has issues.

Alienware Alpha

alienware-alpha-1920

If you absolutely must have Alienware then the Alpha is as good a choice as any, and surprisingly runs at just $799. You can usually cut as much as $100 off of that by shopping around. While cheap, the specs are not impressive, with only 8GB of memory. However, you can upgrade it if needed. You get a solid GPU, a Steam console and is sometimes incompatible with NVIDIA drivers and specific games. Importantly, there is no optical drive (A.k.a. no CDs, DVDs or disks of any kind – unless they’re ISO).

CPU Solutions AM3+ FX-4130

hqdefault-4

While one of the least known gaming computer brands on the market, CPU solutions is quickly rising to prominence for their series of decently priced gaming rigs. While not spectacular, you can get decent quality specs and a decent build for somewhere around the $700 range, without reverting to pure junk plastic. The bad news is that you most likely won’t be able to walk into your local Best Buy to try one out.
