PrimeWire Review

PrimeWire Review

PrimeWire is one of hundreds of online movie streaming sites and has been one of the most popular for a long time. Anyone searching for movie streaming on piracy discussion forums is likely to see it highly recommended. However, there have been recent developments that should cause you to be concerned.

What is PrimeWire?

PrimeWire is an online media streaming site that offers free music, movies, and other media. PrimeWire supports itself by using ads, which are present in front of some media and on the sidebar for the site, but otherwise offers media free of charge.

Typically, when you click on a movie file to stream, you will also get a popup ad, which can link to a relatively benign site or one sharing pornography, trying to steal your information, or attempting to download a malware program onto your computer. Therefore, PrimeWire is not always safe, but you could improve your experience by using an adblocker or a pop-up blocker on the site.

Unlike most other streaming sites, PrimeWire offers music as well as movies and TV shows and enables users to put together playlists using files already on the site. Unfortunately, it does not allow you to see other user’s playlists.

Kodi Box Support

You can stream right from a web browser or with a Kodi box.

Is Prime Wire Legal?

PrimeWire has been blocked in some countries for facilitating illegal streaming. However, Prime Wire doesn’t seem actually upload its own files. Instead, PrimeWire organizes links from multiple sources, typically on the deep web, and then links users out to different places to watch the film or listen to music.

Primewire Interface

When you click on a movie on PrimeWire, you still have to choose another site to actually watch it on. This site will open in a new browser tab. This is a very common tactic used by streaming sites because by not uploading content themselves, they hope to absolve themselves of most of the legal responsibility for the legitimacy of the film. They hope that if they aren’t violating copyrights themselves, only linking to a file that violates copyrights, that they cannot be taken down for copyright violation.

Although this seems to be how most pirate sites prefer to operate, it has not shielded many site from being shut down or blocked.

Unfortunately, none of the films or music on PrimeWire appear to be legit. All of them are illegally streamed, and if your country prosecutes streaming alongside piracy, you could face legal issues if you are caught.

Typical Precautions

PrimeWire links out to a lot of different sites, and these are of varying quality, so you do have to be careful where you click. If you choose to use the site, make sure that you are running a firewall and good antivirus software. You should also read the reviews on links, and look for high-quality ones that are less likely to link to a dangerous website. With a pirate site, “dangerous” could be a porn pop-up or malware infecting your computer and using it in a botnet.

Update: PrimeWire Turned Scam

Starting in the first half of 2018, a flood of complaints about Primewire began appearing on piracy boards. Most of these complaints referenced fake links, VPN software that contained a phishing trojan, and numerous attempts to infect users with malware or viruses. These reports include, and specifically mention,

We have no reason to doubt these reports, and every reason to believe the sources. There is no indication what the motive behind the change may be, but the owners may have simply found that piracy wasn’t paying the bills.

While PrimeWire does offer free media streaming, all of the content is pirated and the risk associated with using it is simply too high. We advise you to look for legal movie streaming sites instead of using PrimeWire.
