Just Dance 4: A Review of a Great Family Game

Just Dance 4: A Review of a Great Family Game

Just Dance 4 is the newest addition to our home video game collection. My grandson Luke has been playing Just Dance 4 at school and has also rented it a few times from RedBox. He has been watching the game videos on YouTube and really enjoyed them, so we got him this as a present when he graduated from Kindergarten.  Our new first grader is becoming a dance machine.

Just Dance 4 is a lot of fun, the gameplay requires you to move to a series of choreographed steps and a very good beat. It can also be an exhausting endeavor which is very good exercise. The verdict depends on a persons age and fitness level. The almost 7 year old in our home can dance and dance, while this grandmother can make it through one half of one song without collapsing into a rather large heap in the floor.

The Top 10 at Our House

The B-52’s and their song “Rock Lobster” are on the top 10 list in this household. It is a fast paced song and Luke enjoys both watching the video and dancing to it. One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” is another favorite. The choreography is easy and he learned it quickly. The scores and encouragement on the screen as he dances makes him feel accomplished. ” Wild Wild West” by Will Smith would also be on our top 10, as would “The Final Countdown”. “You’re The First, The Last, My Everything” by Barry White is there due to my own addition. Why? Well, because it is Barry White. At the top of the list for Luke is “We No Speak Americano”. The song is by Hit The Electro Beat. His excellent scores as he hits every move keep him dancing to that song over and over again. “Jailhouse Rock”, “Mass Que Nada”, “Good Feeling”, and “Call Me Maybe” round out the Brook top 10.

Additional Downloads

By using XBox Live Points, additional songs can be purchased and then downloaded for play. Luke chose Katie Perry’s “Part Of Me” as his first download. He chose it for the dance moves and not the song. These additional downloads will keep the game fresh and new for an extended period of time.

More Than Just Fun

If parents and grandparents are concerned about their children spending too much time in front of a game system and not enough time in physical exercise, this game on the XBox 360 Kinect is a perfect choice for fun and exercise this summer. Who knows? I may even try it again myself when nobody is watching. Just Dance 4 is also available for play on the PS3, Wii, and WiiU game systems.
