iPhone 3GS Is A Budget Friendly Option For A New Smartphone User
The iPhone 3GS is not the latest iPhone to be released, but it is a great option if you want to have a smartphone and want to stay on budget. While you can’t find the iPhone 3GS on store shelves anymore, you will be able to find it on auction sites and classified ads. The iPhone 3G Operating System is also upgradable to iOS 4 which, is a nice feature if you want more advanced technology or you want to be able to use more advanced applications.
When the iPhone 3GS first came out it could be purchased for $199 for the 16gb and $299 for the 32gb, with a 2 year contract. Now, you can easily find one for about $100 to $150, used or refurbished. I would recommend buying the phone from a reputable seller because you don’t want to bring home the item and then find out it develops major defects in a short period of time. A few great sellers who offer refurbished phones are Best Buy AT&T, Game Stop and Newegg.com.

It’s All About The Beauty Inside The iPhone 3GS
Don’t get me wrong, the 3GS has beauty on the outside too, but inside is where the true beauty lays. The exterior is not too much different than the original iPhone which is a nice feature if you’re looking for something classic. One upgrade that is worth mentioning is that the 3GS does come with a smear free screen. This is because of the wonderful oleophobic coating that can even keep your screen clean if you are eating greasy fries and texting at the same time.
When you first look at the iPhone 3GS, you won’t notice much change from the iPhone 3G on the exterior. The iPhone 3GS has much better hardware, and increased application speed as well as a faster keyboard and screen load. The iphone 3Gs also has a much faster processor and more RAM to help speed it up.
The iPhone 3GS has approximately double the capacity of the basic iPhone 3G and can be purchased in sizes of 16GB or 32GB. This means you will have more storage space for your applications and media files and iTunes, which is usually one of the biggest space hogs on an iPhone 3Gs. There are other options that you can add to obtain more space if you need it, additional SD cards can up the space to 80GB.
iPhone 3GS Has Video Capabilities
The standard iPhone originally came with a camera application with the option to pay extra to purchase the video application. The 3GS comes with video capabilities with 3 megapixel camera that can record VGA quality video at 30 frames per second. This is great for doing HD video for YouTube or other social sites including Facebook. The iPhone 3gs has a very easy record and click upload process, which makes it a great budget smartphone option for anyone who needs video capabilities.
iPhone 3GS Network Availability
When the iPhone 3GS first came out it was only available on the AT&T network, and this is still a fact. If you want to take your iPhone 3GS to another network, you would have to jailbreak it, which is not a recommended process. You also might not get to use all the features on another network. If you want to use a iPhone on another network, such as Verizon, you will have to purchase an upgrade for iPhone 4 or 4s.
My Personal Verdict Is The iPhone 3GS Is A Green Light!
Even though there are a couple of things about the iPhone 3Gs that I am not personally crazy about, the features I like over-power them. The camera feature is one of the reasons why I believe that the iPhone 3Gs is one of the better budget friendly smartphone options. The 3Gs also delivers faster speed and better internet browsing time and application run time than the standard model.
If you are one of the few people just now coming into the iPhone 3GS world, or if you are looking for a reasonably priced smartphone for your preteen or teenager, then maybe the iPhone 3Gs is right for you.
