Brain training apps usually feature a series of games intended to test your memory, response time and mental agility. Over time, these apps work to improve these functions by constantly testing them and making you work. While not all brain training apps actually work, they do provide fun games that test your mental capacity. If you’re looking for one, the following include five options for Android or iOS, with free and premium options.

Elevate is one of the biggest brain training apps available and features three games per day with the free version or eight games per day with the paid version for a total of 24 games. The app has a multiple prong focus with branches into science, language, brain response time and cognitive thinking, and then rates you individually on specifics like speaking, writing and thinking. The premium membership costs $5 per month or $45 per year.

Cognifit Brain Fitness

Cognofit Brain Fitness allows you to train either on general games or choose personalized goals and then train to achieve those. Combining fun imagery and problem solving games allows it to actually improve your cognitive thinking and problem solving, but only when you spend at least twenty minutes several times a week with the app. The free version only gives you four games and upgrades cost $13 per month or $120 per year.

You can upgrade for $4.99 a month of $99.99 for a lifetime to get more games and more advanced analytics, but the free version gives you multiple games on rotation and a comparison of how you’re doing each day, plus a daily workout and goal.

Lumosity is probably one of the most famous brain training apps, mainly because they advertise all over the web. Their app offerings include a desktop and browser version and allow you to go with paid or premium options. Lumosity trains multiple categories including mental agility or speed, memory, attention span and problem solving with a series of games. You only get limited access with the free option and paid version costs $80 per year, or $15 per month.

Eidicit is actually a memorization app which uses a technique called spaced repetition to help you memorize almost anything. You can add bank numbers, phone numbers, sentences, facts or whatever else you want to the app and it will help you remember it. The app is free but you can upgrade for just $5.

There are plenty of brain training apps to try out, and many are fun even without spending money on the upgrade. Many include puzzle games, word puzzles and problem solving items that help you with boosting your mental capacity and agility over time. However, they can also be a fun way to spend a few minutes each day if you just want fun and challenging games.
