Is Vumoo Safe? A Review of the Free Movie Streaming Site

If you’re looking for a free place to watch movies online, Vumoo is a website that is almost certain to come up. The site promises free, unlimited streaming similar to Netflix, but with no monthly fee. That offer is tempting to the best of us, especially if our monthly budgets are already short, without adding an additional $10 per month to the roster. However, is Vumoo safe? We all know that nothing is free, and someone has to be paying licensing fees right? If you’re concerned about whether or not Vumoo is a legitimate place to watch free movies, your concerns are definitely valid. However, is it still an option to watch movies through sites like Vumoo safely?

How Does Vumoo Work?

Vumoo is not a pirate site in that it does not upload, host, or provide any video files whatsoever. This means that they source everything on the page from somewhere else. However, it does not mean that anything on the page is legit. Instead, Vumoo functions like a search engine to display a direct link or an embed code to the movie or TV show that you are looking for. It finds these shows on different sites such as Putlocker, sockshare, allmyvideos, filenuke, vidxden, novamov, nowvideo, Megavideo, gorillavid, MovShare, Muchshare, Vidbux, Vidbull, vidto, Nosvideo, Movreel, Videozed, most of which are known pirate sites. In short, Vumoo is still sharing stolen media, they’re just trying not to take responsibility for it by sourcing it somewhere other than their own servers.

Is Vumoo Legal and Safe?

Vumoo exists in a shady grey area of the web, where they are not directly breaking any laws, but they are also not on the sunny side of the law. By only displaying links and codes, they can void themselves of any direct responsibility for uploads, which is where most of the legal issues come in. As a viewer, this should also void you of any responsibility, as the site you are watching it on neither claims responsibility nor informs you of the fact that content is most likely illegally uploaded. However, this does not change the fact that Vumoo is for all intents and purposes, a pirate media search engine. This means that should a court decide to go after viewers/streamers, the site will offer no protection.

Is Vumoo a Scam?

It’s important to keep in mind that not all Vumoo movies are free. Some of them will redirect you to websites that require you to log in, others will require you to watch ads, and many will send you through popups and redirects in order to watch your movie. While Vumoo itself is not a scam, some of the websites that it links to are less than stellar, and some of them will try to get your credit card information. If you choose to use a site like Vumoo, make sure that you are prepared to close links when they aren’t what you expected, be ready to watch advertisements, and expect popups.

Should I Use Vumoo?

For the most part, Vumoo is safe, despite the fact that it isn’t legal. Most courts are more concerned with uploaders rather than viewers and streamers, but this might not always be the case. However, media piracy is a huge problem, and courts are viewing it with increasing severity and laws will become more strict over time. If you must use Vumoo, consider streaming it using a VPN that will hide your IP address and protect you from a potential lawsuit. However, media streaming sites are now extremely affordable, offer tens of thousands of movies and TV shows to watch, and are much better quality and easier to use than any pirate site.

If you really want to stream movies for free without paying $10 per month for the privilege, why not try out free trials, you can get almost a year of free media by just legally trying out all of the streaming options. And, when you’re done, you can actually sign up for Amazon Prime for as little as $99 for the entire year of unlimited streaming.
