Sony Xperia Z Waterproof Smartphone unveiled at CES
While not the first waterproof phone, the newest Sony phone is certainly something to keep your eye on. The Sony Xperia Z features the waterproof functions of HTC models such as the Droid Razor, but also a powerful camera capable of recording in HDR (high dynamic range) video. Sony’s newest phone is packed with features, and according to the company, will hopefully turn around their full year of losses from 2012. The Sony Xperia Z was unveiled at the CES Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, along with a range of high quality 4K TV’s with four times the resolution and pixels of other TVs.
Sony Xperia Z Waterproof Features
The Sony Xperia Z is waterproof and can actually be taken into a shower or bath. Many other ‘waterproof phones’ are simply water resistant, the Sony Xperia Z can actually stay underwater for thirty minutes or longer, which does make it unique among waterproof phones.
According to Sony Mobile executive Steve Walker, the phone is excellent for being used to watch HD movies in the bath, because it doesn’t matter if you drop the phone. One in ten people generally drop their phone in a toilet at one point in their lives, and this phone circumvents this problem.
On the other hand, the phone does require the sockets such as headphone jack and ports to be covered with plastic clips between use; or water can still access the phone through those ports.
High Quality Video
The Sony Xperia Z also includes other features, Sony is famous for its line of cameras; and for this phone; they brought some of their camera technology over. The phone records video in HDR (High dynamic range) video quality and uses Bravia TV technology for enhanced playback. The phone also uses Exmor RS Image Sensing to completely balance light and dark backgrounds against the persons face.
The HDR equipped new Sony Xperia will supposedly be one of the highest quality phone recording devices available, which could be enough to pull Sony back out of their year-long loss period. With a 13 megapixel camera and sharper imaging than their closest competition, the HTC Droid DNA, the Sony Xperia is almost the perfect next generation phone.
New Sony Devices Add to their Range of HD
Sony announced a few other devices as well as the Sony Xperia Z, among those are an 84 inch 4k quality TV. The Sony Xperia Z is set to be Sony’s new flagship phone, and as such, will certainly be quite popular in the weeks and months to come. From first look at the Xperia Z, it really is the most attractive Xperia phone to be released in some time, which could make it a much better seller than other Xperia phones.
In recent months, Sony has also moved up in the smartphone market, now nearly passing HTC as one of the most popular smartphone models. While it’s unclear if the Sony Xperia Z will change the market, Sony is certainly trying.
